Florida, Georgia and South Carolina 2019

I've never really had Georgia and South Carolina on my bucket list.
But Lisa has...
and we both like vacations.
So of course we went!

And if those 2 states aren't on your bucket list...
they should be.

We took a red eye into Orlando.
Rented a car and started driving North.

We stopped in St. Augistine Florida.

"The oldest continuously inhabited European settlement within the borders of the continental United States."

It was a rainy day, but the city was pretty.
Lots to explore.

We then drove a couple hours more and arrived in Savannah Georgia.

What a beautiful city!

I was expecting heat and humidity.
There was some of that of course, but the week we picked couldn't have been better as far as heat and humidity.
Maybe a little bit less rain... especially on our Hilton Head Island day... but we didn't sweat... too much!

Lisa found us this great house.
Right downtown.
It was gorgeous.

The layout of the city is amazing.
With parks in each "square".

We were only a block from Forsyth park.
Perfect for an evening stroll.
Do you know what is loud on a warm summer evening??
Cicadas.
Amazingly loud!

The trees are gorgeous.
I loved the draping spanish moss.
The magnolia trees etc etc.
So pretty!

We woke up to rain our first morning in Savannah.
We were headed to Hilton Head Island.

We had fun, but it would have been a whole different experience if we had actually had the "beach day" we planned. hahaha

The south is filled with sooo much history.
I loved it!

We went on a ghost tour this night.
Did you know that Savannah is one of the most haunted cities in the US?
Now you know.

Our guide was a great story teller.
What a fun night!

The next day we took a food tour.
We learned so much of the history surrounding Savannah besides the food part!

It was so much fun!
We've never done one of those before.
There were about 7 stops at different restaurants.
We liked everything we had!

Although that "pork belly" in the next picture was a little bit much for me.

Sunday we started driving towards Charleston.

We stopped for church and the people were so nice.
What a great testimony meeting too.
Almost everyone talked about sharing the gospel that week... mainly with people who were not very excited about the church.  The south would be rough to be a member of the church, we take living in Utah for granted!

When we arrived in Charleston we set out on a catamaran for the afternoon.
It was beautiful when we left, but a storm picked up fast.
We had to cut our time a little short because of it.
But our "skipper" got us back to shore just before a HUGE rainstorm hit.

We stayed one night in Charleston.

That last morning we toured Boone Hall Plantation.
It was gorgeous and so interesting to tour the home, visit the grounds, visit the slave quarters and explore the "gullah culture."

Also fun to learn that several scenes from "The Notebook" were filmed here.

We loved our time with good friends exploring a part of the country that we would love to return to again!
