How can someone come to China... or an least Beijing and not go to the Great Wall!!
Fun Fact... the Great Wall of China is 5,000 miles long.
What??!!??
We opted for the Mutanyu portion of the wall.
We think we made a good choice but then how do we know??
We had another driver for the day. He was great! The part we were going to was about 1.5 hours from our hotel. So we headed out early. One major problem... it was a Chinese National Holiday so everyone was going to the Great Wall... or the the "mountains" as our driver said. To get away from the smog.
Yep it took us WAY longer than 1.5 hours to get there but it was worth it!
We took the lift up and tobogganed down at the end.
Remember how I said Chinese are scared of fast rides??!!
Yikes! Petrified might be a better word for it!
Riding the alpine slide (toboggans) down was painfully slow.
And the WHOLE time workers were on the side telling us to keep going (at a snails pace behind the person in front). So we would stop and wait for a bit to be able to go a few feet fast.
They did NOT like that! I thought one guy might hit me!
We just pretended like we didn't know what they were saying...
Cuz really most of us didn't.
But hand gestures and yelling is pretty universal! hahaha
I'm not sure what we thought the Great Wall was going to be like...
but I was thinking a nice gradual path.
Nope!
Stairs... lots and lots and lots of stairs.
Stairs of all different sizes. Some 3", some 18".
We thought MANY times how in the world they built this!
Yoga on the great wall...
Guess what everyone begged for for lunch??
Yep Subway. hahaha
Right at the base of the Great Wall of China.
We still had our driver (who had waited for us) so we had him drive us to the "Summer Palace"
We wish we had more time, but the traffic REALLY held us up today.
Lydia had enough of the pictures.
From Tayler's camera, (which by the way Tayler took almost all of the China photos I've posted. I love it) and from random Chinese fans of ours!
So we kicked her out. haha
It was another great day!
