What were we Thinking???
When we built our house 3 1/2 years ago we were so excited about having a big, beautiful yard. We envisioned lots of barbeques, good times around the firepit and fun for our whole family and especially our little girls. But this week I again asked myself (out loud this year...) what were we thinking! Somewhere in the planning of this yard and looking at all the "pretty colors" on our awesome landscape plan. (Thank you Dad and Shar), we forgot who would be taking care of it all! US! Shane does great with the lawn. (Which he of course needed a big fancy riding mower for-before it was even planted). But I am left with the flower beds... and lots of them. I spent my first few hours out clearing away all the dead stuff - (and new weeds). 10 more days like that and I might make it all the way around!! (not today though, we woke up to 2 inches of snow.) But in the middle of the summer when everything looks green and there are pretty flowers blooming everywhere, and the kids are running around playing (and it is a night that I am not weeding...) it makes it all worth it!
MORE ON THE WOES OF WEEDS...
In my local IFA ad this week I came across the greatest ad for weed barrier. My opinion about weed barrier is not fantastic. We have it almost everywhere - and it is not cheap - but we also have weeds EVERYWHERE. (In fact some places without weed barrier have less weeds than where there is. I am a big fan of PREEN and use it almost monthly after a really good weeding, it cuts down on weeds tremendously.) But when I saw this ad I burst out laughing.... "Gauranteed 100% - No Weeds!" What does that mean? Granted lots of weeds germinate on top of the weed barrier, but it is amazing how those little suckers can come through it as well! I think the next time I see weeds coming through the weed barrier. I might just leave them - call "DeWitt" and see what they say. I may just get my own personal little weeder man to come to my house for the 100% gaurantee!! :)
