I have decided that if everyone posted the dos and don'ts of their daily life - the world might be a better place. So I am starting my own "Public Service Message" list.
#1 - DON'T let your children out of the car at the Gas Station!
I learned this a couple weeks ago (it was actually on April Fool - hence I was suspicious...). As I was getting out to fill up the gas I asked my 10 year old daughter Tayler to empty the garbages in the car... Seems like a normal... safe thing right?? Well AS SOON as she got out the crazy attendant man comes RUNNING over to us and says, "I can see that you are not 12 years old - I need you to get back into the car right now...". I said "Excuse me, is it April Fools Day or something?" He didn't hear me so I said, "Is there a new law I don't know about." "Well yes mam, here at Sam's Club you could say it is, I will wait for your child to get into the car before I explain, I don't want to frighten her." WHAT????????? I'm thinking some child must have got ran over, caught on fire, maybe sprayed gas all over him, etc. So I tell Tay to get in the car, she gives me the "that was weird" look and gets in. He proceeds to tell me this long story about how a three year old set off some alarms (which he told me is not really that difficult to do???) and the police came and the mom was so embarrassed.... And they had now decided that no one under 12 could get out of the vehicle for "safety reasons" of course. I asked him again if it was an April Fools Day joke - he didn't laugh (or even smile) so... apparently NOT!
While this was going on my cell phone rings and Tay answers it. It was my mom looking for me - Tayler of course was afraid to open the door to tell me the phone was for me, so she tells my mom, "apparently there is a new law about getting out of the car at gas stations - so I can't get her right now." When I did call her back she was quite concerned, "What is the government coming too - kids can't even get out of the car at the gas station - what if they have to go to the bathroom!"
We had a good laugh!
Synopsis of "Public Service Message #1 by Angie", don't let your children out of the car at gas stations (at least at Sam's Club!)

Next time you go, let Tayler get out through the driver side door and proceed to pump gas while you hide in the back. When they tell her she can't... well "one call thats all"... Mr. Walton won't even miss that couple of mil.
I was getting gas the day after that whole alarm thing happened at Sam's. The attendant saw my carseat in the back and came running over to tell me not to let my child out of the car. I was all, "well, okay, seeing as he's like 4 months old, no problem". So, it's definitely just a Sam's thing. Weirdos.
I have a great addition to this story. My friend Rachel was also stormed by the Sam's Club Man - but this was over using a cell phone at the pumps. He ran up to her and said "GET IN THE CAR, GET IN THE CAR." She was completely comfused - but did what he said. He then pumped her gas for her so that she would not be a danger to herself and those around her... CUCKO!
