Day 5... San Juan, Puerto Rico
A gorgeous, sunny, perfect day... We opted to take a tour around the island...
making a few stops along the way... We then were dropped off at the "fort". I thought it was really fascinating to learn about the history of Puerto Rico.
And the scenery wasn't bad either...
We goofed around with a little photo shoot...
Did some shopping... and had plenty of fun. I enjoyed San Juan... maybe because the weather was delightfully awesome this day...
...................
That night I made a fool of myself and did a lip sync... in front of WAY more people than I should have... But... I did win ( I had to pull out all the stops and throw in a classic "running man"...) it worked :) and I received my first (of two) cruise trophies... that was an awfully proud moment. Joe IMMEDIATELY pointed out that he had "lots" of those from other cruises. He even dug them out of a box in the garage to show me when we got home... but I didn't see one that said "Carnival Glory" on it.
He might be trying to buy one off eBay right now!
This was also the night that Lisa made a new friend with this nice... drunk... young man... wearing a robe. They danced together in front of everyone...
Deon was FURIOUS... (personally I think it was a little jealousy??) pointing out how ridiculous it was that Lisa would dance with "towel boy" and then be mad about the whole "Karaoke" thing. I tried not to pick sides... :)
And then it was time to wow the masses with our pre-cruise choreographed dance... and wow it did!
After the deck party fun, it was late but not late enough for SOME of us to go to bed. Some of us stayed up till about...
Doing random stuff like this...
(oh and I see that I'm still flaunting that trophy of mine. :))
as you can tell we pretty much had the ship to our self by then... notice we are the only ones still eating at that time. :)
Day 6 - Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos
One of the benefits of having a window in our room was being able to see what the weather would be like for the day. We were excited to see blue skies upon docking in Grand Turk... it looked like a gorgeous day that was going to be PERFECT for our snorkeling and exploration excursion...
By the time we got off the ship it was more like this...
that's right... POURING RAIN... Rusty's face said it all, we were given the option to back out of the excursion... but decided as a group to do as a quote I print for many people says...
"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain."
So dance in the rain we did!
The boat ride out was FREEZING, and none of us took pictures on the way out because no one wanted to MOVE... and we could all ring the water out of our sweatshirts by the time we got to the snorkeling site. Pretty much I have never been so excited to jump right in instead of slowly lowering myself in... the water felt much warmer!
We were a little disappointed that because of the weather they took us to an alternative site, I thought that the plant life was awesome, but the fish sightings weren't real great.
We had fun anyway of course!
After snorkeling... our guide took us to an island... for some exploring. We found tons of hermit crabs and big conch shells along the beach, but we were most excited that the sun came out for us...
The ride back was far more enjoyable.
I do wish that we had docked a few hours later when the weather cleared up because this island was beautiful and far less touristy than other places... which I definitely prefer...
Grand Turk is definitely a place I could come back to and spend a whole week just lounging on the beach...
..............
That night... more fun with friends...
Day 7 - Ship Day
We slept in and spent a few good hours lounging around on the deck. Then it was time for our "Peeps Scavenger Hunt". What a blast!
We drew for teams... split up and went to work getting pictures of various people doing things around the ship. Like... a crew member, a bad sunburn, the oddest couple, someone in a robe, or a speedo, etc.
Notice the wet spot to the left of me in the top left picture...
That spot caused Ron B. to buy his 1st beer... apparently the guy that was sitting in the chair behind us jumped up... spilled his own beer and then was royally chapped about it... since it was our fault...??? Ron was the one he chased down, so he took one for the team and went and bought the guy another beer while we finished the scavenger hunt...
And since we WON... I guess it was worth it... just remembering now that we owe Ron a couple bucks for our share of that beer. :)
The other team had great photos too, and were good sports...
Winning team....
Losing team... :)
........
That night we had our last meal... and said good-byes to our waiters who we will always consider our friends.
watched the last show... packed up...
and...
I won another trophy!!
Playing some trivia game...
Joe played the round before...
he was a runner-up so a medal was all he got,
no Carnival Glory trophy will ever be his... :)
I try to convince myself that it is OK to make a fool of myself doing stuff like this... because no one will ever remember me... and then I remember that I came with a group of 19 people who I will see
ALL THE TIME!!
What is wrong with me???
Anything for a trophy I guess! :)
Joe looks... a little... "special" in this picture don't you think??
Our week together was fabulous...
It was relaxing in a strange kind of non-sleep sort of way...
It was a break from reality..
It was a blast and made us remember what being a couple without kids is like...
And it made me more grateful...
Grateful for my kids... and the awesome care they were given by my sweet sis-in-law Kimi...
Grateful for a good easy-going husband...
Grateful for the beauties of this earth...
And grateful for awesome friends!
...Anyone ready to go again????
I can be packed in an hour!!!
