Out of the Mouth of Babes... Jan-March 2011

It's time for another post involving fun quotes from the last few months.  I find some of these hilarious and if you are having a bad day or just an OK day...  at least one of these is sure to make you smile. :)

Excerpts from my "Mom's one line a day" book Jan-march 2011...

*  Jadyn had some friends over today. She asked them if they wanted to listen to music and then said, "oh, I know, let's put in David Archuleta... Tayler's totally going to marry him!" Obviously she's heard that a time or two!

*  Shane was off working on a Temple in Kentucky. Jadyn said,"I am so decided (excited), Daddy will be home in only 3 more sleeps!"

*  We were reading scriptures in 3rd Nephi 28... and I was trying to pry at the kids for the answer "Nephites" - I said, "the three......" Jadyn jumped up and yelled, "Little Pigs, little pigs!!"

*  We love playing games as a family. This night it was "word on the street". Saige is a little scattered brained (airheaded :)) sometimes, I think it's why she is so fun and lovable. But she comes up with crazy stuff. Here's a good one - the question was "a predator". She yells, "A Kangaroo... they're predators right?? Don't they eat antelopes??"

*Jadyn said, "You are the bestest in our house." (to Shane) I said, "What am I? She replied, "you are the bestest in our house too... you both are! I don't want you to feel bad, I'm not rude."

*Another Saige "air-head" moment. We are planning a trip to Williamsburg Virginia this summer. I was talking to Tayler and Saige about what they knew from History class about it. Tayler knew lots. Saige not so much - she saw a picture with snow from a live camera and said, "What! I thought it was a tropical island!" (Sometimes I wonder how this child has a 4.0!)

* We played a game of Yahtzee as a family. Every time Jady rolled she would yell, "Roxy". (Yahtzee). She was extra excited that she got "2 Roxies" in one game!!

* Jadyn was laying in my bed playing on her DSI. She tooted quite loud and I said, "Oh gross Jady." She said, "Too bad dad's not here he would have liked that." I laughed and she said, "Well wouldn't he? he does that all the time." Then she burst out laughing!

* This morning Jadyn came to snuggle with me in my bed. She looked at the window and said, "Let's turn on that window." (meaning let's open the blinds.) :)

* Jadyn was "baby talking" with Lydia today. She turns to me and says, "Me and Lydi... we're talkin' Spanish."

* Jadyn brought me a "Humpty Dumpty" book to read to her. She said, "O, this book is so sad, in the one @ school people helped Humpty Dumpty by taping him back up... but in our book they didn't even try to help him... they just let him lay there all cracked."

* Tonight we were reading in Mormon and it was talking about lots of "weapons." Kenna often doesn't listen real intently at scripture time. So Tayler said, "Kenna what were there lots of?" Kenna answered unsure, "Buttons?"

* Shane was off again to work on a Temple in Stockholm Sweden. This time for a long time... two weeks. Jadyn asked me, "when Daddy was getting home." I told her in 4 more days. She said, "O, tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow then I can have my Daddy back... yeah!"

* Apparently Tayler can't decide who she is going to marry. The girls went to the new Justin Beiber movie. When they got home Jadyn said, "Tayler are you REALLY going to marry Justin Beiber?" I can see why she was confused only a few weeks ago it was David Archuletta. :)

*We had a poinsettia that was still alive in Feb. Saige said, "Man how long do those Priscella's live?"

* Today my child did something I never thought she would do. Kenna cut her hair - by herself. I noticed it and said, "Kenna who cut your hair!" She went to the mirror and looked in the mirror with her mouth open like she had no idea what we were talking about! Later she admitted that it was in a pony and falling in her eyes when she was doing her homework - so she cut "her bangs" (which she didn't have) to the scalp... I could have died!

* I'm sure one day Jadyn will die that I shared this with the world... but it was hilarious. While we were on our cruise Kimi was here with the girls and she told us this story... She was bathing Lydia and Trey (her little boy). Jadyn was watching and asked, "What is that on Trey's bum." Kimi explained that is what boys look like - Jadyn asked, "All of them?" Kimi told her yes. And then Jadyn said... "Well that looks really silly..."

* Then another day people were talking about how Lydia and Trey look alike and Jadyn piped in, "Yeah, but you can tell them apart when they are naked huh."

* I rarely take a bath. (Well that sounded weird I just shower not bath... :)) Anyway this night Jadyn was up late and I was trying to get her to go to bed. I finally did and started running my tub. She comes running in, "Oh, mom do you need me to bath you tonight?" I assured her I would be OK without her. :)

* Jadyn said to me, "We love our Daddy don't we? He reaches really high things, and if we didn't have him we would have to keep going to the garage like everyday to get the ladder." :)

* Random thought from Kenna, "I think that Leprechauns have pimples... That's just what I think of when I think of a Leprechaun!"

* Today Jadyn was playing with her friend and she said all excited, "Guess what! My Uncle Jeff is going to be a REAL Dentist!!" She's proud of her Uncle Jeff, but her friend wasn't real impressed. :)

* A story from Lisa (our awesome neighbor :))... Jadyn went to her house and she invited her in. Lisa said, "Jadyn you look cold do you want to wrap up in this blankie with me?" Jadyn said, "Don't you want to ask me something else?" Lisa said, "Like what Jadyn?" Jadyn's response, "I don't know.. Maybe like... do you want some M&M's or treats or something?" (That Jadyn has it all worked out... she KNOWS she is not supposed to ask for treats... but if someone asks HER...! That's what I call a Loophole!:))

* St. Patrick's Day was fun... It started with a "Leprechaun" dying the milk green. Jadyn would NOT drink it. She said, "I know it won't hurt me but I'm not doing it!" Then she told Kenna she needed to watch her feet while Kenna drank it to see if they turned green. Apparently last year Shelby (her preschool teacher and my bestest buddy) had made some green footprints and told them all that it was from drinking green milk!

* Jadyn will be starting soccer soon so we pulled out the ball to let her and Kenna kick it around. She has been learning "bat mahs" in dance (kicks). Jadyn ran around the yard singing, "We're playing bat mahs, we're playing bat mahs!"

* Lydia is learning fun new things...  Like how she nods her head when we say prayers, and she wants to try on every body's shoes, She says "Wow" when she does something cool, and "Hi" when I walk into the room, she points at things and says quite clear... "What's that?"  She goes up and down her slide (inside) over and over again.  She shakes her head yes and no.  She points to eyes, nose, etc.  She giggles and shows us her little toothless grin (and yippee tooth #3 and #4 just burst through this week...  Top middle right and top right molar.  I'm expecting more to make their appearance very soon!)  And altogether makes us so very very happy... I adore that little girl!  It won't be too long before she will be saying all kinds of stuff that I get to write down for her.  Love you Lydi!!

* Last week Jadyn went to her friend Andy's house. They had lunch together and they happened to have corn dogs... Jadyn's favorite. Andy asked his mom while they were eating what corn dogs were made of. She told him "pigs". Jadyn wouldn't eat another bite!! On the way home I told her that we eat lots of things made from animals... milk, cheese, hamburger, bacon, ham etc. She said, "Well that is gross, especially since I don't really even like animals!" (She hasn't asked for a corn dog since. Maybe she's going to be a vegetarian... except she doesn't like most vegetables either!)

So did any of those make you smile????
I think that life would be pretty boring without all our kids around to entertain us!!
We love you girls!!
Keep the funny things coming!!

Dance, Dance and more Dance...

Yep it's that time of year again... competition time and Saturday was our first "all-dayer".  Not that there haven't been about 10 other performances in the last couple of months.  But... Tayler and Saige LOVE it!
LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!
They spent last weekend at "Hollywood Vibe" in Ogden... taking classes from the best.  I think that their favorite was "Ade" (If you watch... "so you think you can dance" you will recognize that name... if not... he's a REALLY good dancer!!)

It was their first "convention" and they came home exhausted and happy for the experience...

Both of them have made serious improvements this year and they are more and more fun to watch.  Tayler has fabulous technique and a killer smile... and Saige has the moves and "attitude" and pizzaz to go with it.
I think they are AWESOME!
Of course I might be biased... but what mother isn't.... :)
(It also might help me to justify the HUGE amounts of money we drop at our dance school!!)

Tayler has three performing numbers this year.

"Brandenburg" (My Favorite)

Tayler - Brandenburg - from Angie Falslev on Vimeo.
(And don't mind my "green wrist band comment on this video... how embarrassing... I should keep quiet!)

"Freak"

Tayler - Freak - from Angie Falslev on Vimeo.

and "Rhythm of Life."

Saige has two awesome performing numbers and I can't pick a favorite because she seriously rocks them both!!

"Glam"

Saige - Glam from Angie Falslev on Vimeo.

And "Tricky"

Saige - Tricky - from Angie Falslev on Vimeo.

See... I told you they were good!!

Kenna and Jadyn haven't burst into the competitive dance part yet... just regular lessons are fine with them... (and me too actually).

Kenna's gymnastics coaches are wanting her to start competitive... Kenna isn't so sure...

But both her and Jadyn are definitely looking forward to soccer season starting up again.  This will be Jadyn's first year...  LOVE that first year of soccer, they are hilarious!

Once I get the soccer game schedule I can pretty much let everyone know when we will be seeing rain/snow...  Pretty sure it will be every... single... time... there is a game!!

GO GIRLS!!!

Even More Cruise Fun...

Day 5...  San Juan, Puerto Rico

A gorgeous, sunny, perfect day...  We opted to take a tour around the island...

making a few stops along the way...  We then were dropped off at the "fort".  I thought it was really fascinating to learn about the history of Puerto Rico.
And the scenery wasn't bad either...

We goofed around with a little photo shoot...
Did some shopping... and had plenty of fun.  I enjoyed San Juan...  maybe because the weather was delightfully awesome this day...
...................

That night I made a fool of myself and did a lip sync... in front of WAY more people than I should have...  But...  I did win ( I had to pull out all the stops and throw in a classic "running man"...) it worked :) and I received my first (of two) cruise trophies... that was an awfully proud moment.  Joe IMMEDIATELY pointed out that he had "lots" of those from other cruises.  He even dug them out of a box in the garage to show me when we got home... but I didn't see one that said "Carnival Glory" on it.
He might be trying to buy one off eBay right now!
This was also the night that Lisa made a new friend with this nice... drunk... young man... wearing a robe.  They danced together in front of everyone...

Deon was FURIOUS... (personally I think it was a little jealousy??) pointing out how ridiculous it was that Lisa would dance with "towel boy" and then be mad about the whole "Karaoke" thing.  I tried not to pick sides... :)

And then it was time to wow the masses with our pre-cruise choreographed dance...  and wow it did!

After the deck party fun, it was late but not late enough for SOME of us to go to bed.  Some of us stayed up till about...
Doing random stuff like this...
(oh and I see that I'm still flaunting that trophy of mine. :))
as you can tell we pretty much had the ship to our self by then...  notice we are the only ones still eating at that time. :)

Day 6 - Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos

One of the benefits of having a window in our room was being able to see what the weather would be like for the day.  We were excited to see blue skies upon docking in Grand Turk... it looked like a gorgeous day that was going to be PERFECT for our snorkeling and exploration excursion...

By the time we got off the ship it was more like this...

that's right... POURING RAIN...  Rusty's face said it all, we were given the option to back out of the excursion... but decided as a group to do as a quote I print for many people says...
"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain."

So dance in the rain we did!

The boat ride out was FREEZING, and none of us took pictures on the way out because no one wanted to MOVE... and we could all ring the water out of our sweatshirts by the time we got to the snorkeling site.  Pretty much I have never been so excited to jump right in instead of slowly lowering myself in...  the water felt much warmer!

We were a little disappointed that because of the weather they took us to an alternative site, I thought that the plant life was awesome, but the fish sightings weren't real great.

We had fun anyway of course!
After snorkeling... our guide took us to an island...  for some exploring.  We found tons of hermit crabs and big conch shells along the beach, but we were most excited that the sun came out for us...
The ride back was far more enjoyable.

I do wish that we had docked a few hours later when the weather cleared up because this island was beautiful and far less touristy than other places... which I definitely prefer...
Check out those blue skies after shopping for a while and returning to the ship...

Grand Turk is definitely a place I could come back to and spend a whole week just lounging on the beach...
..............
That night... more fun with friends...

Day 7 - Ship Day

We slept in and spent a few good hours lounging around on the deck.  Then it was time for our "Peeps Scavenger Hunt".   What a blast!

We drew for teams...  split up and went to work getting pictures of various people doing things around the ship.  Like... a crew member, a bad sunburn, the oddest couple, someone in a robe, or a speedo, etc.
Notice the wet spot to the left of me in the top left picture...

That spot caused Ron B. to buy his 1st beer...  apparently the guy that was sitting in the chair behind us jumped up... spilled his own beer and then was royally chapped about it... since it was our fault...???  Ron was the one he chased down, so he took one for the team and went and bought the guy another beer while we finished the scavenger hunt...

And since we WON... I guess it was worth it...  just remembering now that we owe Ron a couple bucks for our share of that beer. :)

The other team had great photos too, and were good sports...

Winning team....
Losing team... :)
........
That night we had our last meal... and said good-byes to our waiters who we will always consider our friends.

watched the last show... packed up...
and...
I won another trophy!!

Playing some trivia game...
Joe played the round before...
he was a runner-up so a medal was all he got,
no Carnival Glory trophy will ever be his... :)
I try to convince myself that it is OK to make a fool of myself doing stuff like this... because no one will ever remember me... and then I remember that I came with a group of 19 people who I will see
ALL THE TIME!!

What is wrong with me???
Anything for a trophy I guess! :)
Joe looks... a little... "special" in this picture don't you think??

Our week together was fabulous...
It was relaxing in a strange kind of non-sleep sort of way...
It was a break from reality..
It was a blast and made us remember what being a couple without kids is like...

And it made me more grateful...
Grateful for my kids... and the awesome care they were given by my sweet sis-in-law Kimi...
Grateful for a good easy-going husband...
Grateful for the beauties of this earth...
And grateful for awesome friends!
...Anyone ready to go again????
I can be packed in an hour!!!

Cruise Fun Continued...

It's time for more "cruise fun posting"...  I'm guessing my monologue is fairly boring to anybody who wasn't with us...  But it's definitely stuff that I want to remember... (and stuff that my older girls roll their eyes at and say...  "Seriously mom, you guys are so weird... we would have been SOOO embarrassed!"  And yes, yes... they would have been...  Which is why we left them home.  hahahahaha)

Day 2 ended with cookies/ice cream maybe a little pizza/burger and fries at 11 PM... and games together... all while wearing our "Carnival Robes."  (I can just see my Tayler now shaking her head saying... "They are weird... They are weird... They are weird")  And... she wasn't the only one...  we saw the confusion in many a person's eyes when we showed up like that.  But if 16 of you are doing it...  it's pretty fun to look weird... and most were just thinking... "that is the crazy Utah group that keeps cheering/dancing and laughing at every ship event..." :).

Proof that I am totally an angel... I even have a halo.  And behind us that man is probably removing the cone that Joe scared the crap out of people with while executing his dog bark...  that's funny every time...
And these two don't look "peculiar"... hanging out on the ship's deck talking about the stars...

This night ended with everyone else wimping out at about 12:30 AM saying they were tired or something... and us and the Astle's going dancing... (at which point Tayler is now saying... oh please... stop already mom...)  Not to worry Tay... we didn't wear our robes...  Lisa will forever be thought of as my dancing buddy and Shane learned a move or two himself :)  Good times, good times!

Day 3...
was a sea day... it started out sunny and fantastic.  So... us and the Astle's hurried out on deck to save seats, but it was already pretty full so we saved what we could and then...  no one else came... they got their OWN spot somewhere else, claiming they couldn't find us... but we know the truth. :)  It was sunny for about a 1/2 hour and then it was more like this.

Cold, Windy and Rainy... and as you notice behind us... we then had plenty of chairs for everyone! But we stuck it out and it eventually blew over...

later lots tested out the water slide....
But it was still a little bit windy for me...

Then it was time to "debut" our "Cruisin' with my Peeps shirts"...
Designed and created (with iron-on-vinyl)... by yours truly. :) They were a hit, people asked us lots where we got them, and then were able to easily identify the strange group from Utah...  Right after this picture we "roped" another crazy group over from the opposite side of the ship to come dance with us.
Pretty sure the whole event was being shown on the big screen above.

And then we HAD to buy these pictures we had taken of us...

And the men were good sports and just loved that we made them do this...
If only we could see that Shane is sitting in a "shell" it would have been that much better!

That night ended with more of the same...  food, food and more food... a show of some kind... and late night dancing!!

DAY 4
We docked in St. Thomas... caught a bus/taxi to Coki Beach... were a little bit nervous about our surroundings there at first... but had a fabulous time... even if it wasn't the sunniest of days...

We did some snorkeling...

and some random stuff...
Like Jumping...
And digging holes for Joe...
And buying delicious fresh fruit smoothies...
And although Raquel and Ron look fabulous in that picture...
Poor Gnomey was hurting upon his landing...
He needed surgery but was good as new after visiting the medical center...
There was toenail painting on this cruise again.  Del Sol nail polish will always be a staple on our cruise vacations...  Goes on clear... turns red in the sun.  Last time it went like this and Shane was not HAPPY...  but this time Shane wanted in on the fun too, so while Ron B. was snoozing soundly on our first night (we shared a hotel with them in Miami)...  Shane woke me up to find the polish and HE painted all Ron's toes.  He figured it out later that day and did the best he could to pick it off... but we still got you Ron!!  Then Shane fell soundly asleep one afternoon and through his snoring I got him too... he didn't notice until we went outside... and Lisa did Joe's for the 100th time...   That trick will NEVER get old!!

So while looking through every one's pictures I found this gem... the pretty foot is obviously Raquel's... and I recognize Shane's due to that fourth toe that was broken and never set when he was young... but I wasn't sure who the third hairy-toed foot was...  Until Lisa verified for me that it was indeed Joe's. :)  Pretty toes boys... I think you both kind of like it even if you don't admit it. :0
And then too quickly our island adventure was over and we were rushed back through town to the boat...
And Kim... Rusty... seriously... get a room...
First a stop above Sapphire Beach for a few more pictures...

And then a little shopping and exploring before boarding...

It's hard to say goodbye to a place like St. Thomas...  but we had chocolate melting cake to eat... so I guess we had to. :)

After dinner there was a show... and Superstar Karaoke... complete with a live band... and our favorite drummer Nate who we made fast friends with on-board.

Bill karaoked...  And we all assumed Joe would... but he didn't...

I personally had NO intention of doing it... and was surprised when Deon told me she had put my name down to go up with her for our own rendition of "Dancing Queen"...  But Lisa was darn right MAD that she wrote her name down without asking...  things may never be the same between Lisa and Deon.

But deep down when she looks back she WISHES she had come up with us because it was pretty dang fun.

This was also the night that we met "Creeper".  Although we never actually met him... he just seemed to be in the same places as us the rest of the cruise... and enjoyed staring at a few of us...  intently!  CREEPER!

Later that night more food... and more strange pictures...
But no one can say we weren't having a good time!

And as amazing as this sounds...
we weren't done yet!!!

To be continued...
